General Questions
1) What level of fitness do I need for these adventures?
It depends on the adventure. Each program description includes the level of physical demand so you can choose the one that matches your ability. For example, the Annapurna Community Trek is a great entry-level trek — it doesn’t go to extreme altitudes, and it allows you to ease into the world of hiking while connecting with local culture in traditional villages. On the other hand, the Everest 3 Passes Trek is a high-intensity challenge for those seeking something more demanding.
For our rope-based and water adventures, the same applies: some programs are designed for beginners (like our Five Day Basic Rock Climbing Training Program or the Five Day Full Kayak Adventure), while others are for adventurers looking to push their limits.
2) Are the programs suitable for beginners with no prior experience?
Yes, several of our programs are specifically designed for beginners. They focus on teaching the fundamental skills of each sport in a safe, structured, and exciting way. Whether it’s your first time on the rock or your first time paddling on white water, you’ll be guided step by step by qualified local experts. These programs are a perfect way to gain your first outdoor adventure experience in Nepal.
3) Do I need to bring my own gear, or can I rent it in Nepal?
All essential gear is included in our programs, you don’t need to worry about renting equipment. The only exceptions are personal gear items like trekking shoes and poles, which we recommend bringing yourself for comfort and fit.
For climbing programs, we provide all ropes, helmets, harnesses, and technical gear. However, we recommend bringing your own climbing shoes since they are a very personal fit item and can make a big difference in your comfort.
For water adventures, we recommend waterproof shoes or river shoes. While regular sneakers can work, they aren’t designed for constant exposure to water, so they may get damaged quickly. Proper water shoes will also help keep your feet warm and protect them from rocks in the river.
If you need to purchase anything locally, we can recommend trusted Nepali gear shops where you’ll find high-quality equipment at much lower prices than international brands.
4) How big are the groups?
We keep our groups small and personal.
- For trekking programs, trips can be fully customized, you can book as a couple, with friends, or family.
- For climbing and water sports programs, groups are limited to 8 participants per departure, ensuring safety, attention, and a strong sense of community.
5) Is travel insurance mandatory? What should it cover?
Yes, travel insurance is mandatory to book any of our adventures. Your policy should include:
- Medical coverage
- Emergency evacuation and rescue (especially important for high-altitude treks and water activities)
- Trip cancellation or interruption
- Coverage for adventure sports (climbing, trekking, kayaking, rafting)
We’ll provide detailed guidelines during the booking process to make sure your insurance is the right fit for your chosen program.
6) What is the accommodation like (lodges, tents, homestays)?
Our trips use simple, non-fancy accommodations designed for adventure travelers. The level of comfort varies depending on the day and location:
- In Kathmandu
You’ll usually stay in a basic hostel or guesthouse, comfortable and convenient, but not luxury. - In the villages
We stay in local tea houses, which are very simple, family-run lodges with shared facilities. Rooms are basic but cozy, and the experience is a beautiful part of connecting with Nepali mountain culture. - On river or canyoning days
We sometimes camp next to the river, using tents provided by our local partners. It’s rustic and adventurous, you’ll be close to nature, hear the river at night, and enjoy camp-style meals.
7) Do I need a visa to travel to Nepal? How do I get it?
Yes, but the details varies depending of your country of nationality, here you can check your requirements and day restrictions according to the Nepal government:
https://immigration.gov.np/en/page/tourist-visa
Yes, most travelers need a visa to enter Nepal, and the good news is that it’s very easy to get. Nepal offers visas on arrival for travellers from the majority of countries.
Here’s how it works:
Visa on Arrival:
You simply land at Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu), fill out a simple form, pay the visa fee, and receive your visa right there. No appointment, no long process.
Visa Duration & Prices:
30 days – USD 50
60 days – USD 80
90 days – USD 125
(These prices are set by Nepal Immigration and apply to most nationalities.)
Fill the Online Form Before You Fly:
To save time at the airport, fill the Nepal Immigration Arrival Form online within 15 days of your travel date. You’ll receive a QR code. Take a screenshot or print it (if you forget, you can still fill it at kiosks on arrival)
Bring Cash for the Visa Fee:
This is very important. Visa counters often have issues with card machines, so bring the visa fee in cash (USD is best). It makes the process fast and stress-free.
Photo:
Normally not required anymore, but having a passport-size photo just in case never hurts.
Nationality Restrictions:
Most countries can get a visa on arrival. A few nationalities must apply in advance, if you’re unsure, just visit immigration website to confirm. https://immigration.gov.np/en/page/tourist-visa
8) What if I have dietary restrictions (vegetarian, vegan, allergies)?
No problem at all, just let us know in advance. During enrollment, we’ll send you a form where you can specify dietary needs, allergies, or any medical conditions. Our team and local partners will do our best to accommodate your requirements so you can enjoy the adventure worry-free.
9) What’s the minimum and maximum age to join an adventure?
The minimum age is 18 years old. There is no strict maximum age, as long as you have the right fitness level, enthusiasm to learn, and a spirit for adventure, you’re welcome to join us.
10) How do I book and pay for a program? Is there a deposit required?
For the Trek adventures you will need to make a non-refundable deposit of 25% to secure your spot and then pay the rest 60 days before the trip starts.
For the rest of the adventures you will find a “Pay Button" to book the adventure, paying the full amount on the moment of your booking.
All payments are made in USD, and once your booking is confirmed you’ll receive an invoice with all payment details.
11) What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule?
We understand that plans can change. If you need to cancel, our refund policy is:
60+ days before the trip: full refund minus the deposit
Within 60 days: 50% refund minus the deposit
Within 30 days: no refund
All cancellations must be submitted in writing.
If we ever need to cancel due to unexpected events (weather, political instability, natural disasters, etc.), you’ll receive a full refund or the option to transfer your credit to a future trip.
If you need to reschedule, the deposit and/or payment will not be returned but you can choose any other date of your trip without extra costs.
Rescheduling follows the same timeline as cancellations, so the earlier you notify us in writing, the more options we can offer to help you find alternative dates.
TREKKING ADVENTURES
(Everest, Annapurna, Manaslu)
1) What’s the altitude of these treks, and how do you deal with altitude sickness?
Our treks reach high altitudes (up to 5,400–5,600 m depending on the route). We follow a slow and safe acclimatization plan with gradual height gains, rest days, and experienced guides trained to recognize early symptoms of AMS.
Some travelers choose to take altitude-prevention medication such as acetazolamide (Diamox). While this option exists and is widely available in Nǰepali pharmacies, we don’t generally recommend relying on medication unless advised by a doctor, as natural acclimatization is the safest and most effective approach. If you prefer using medication, we can help guide you on when and how it’s typically used, but the final decision should be made with medical advice.
2) How many hours per day will we trek?
Generally 5–7 hours per day, depending on the terrain and itinerary, you can check the itinerary of our 3 treks where you will find details of the hours that you will walk per day depending on which adventure you choose.
3) What kind of accommodation is used on treks (tea houses, tents)?
We stay in locally owned tea houses or lodges along the route on a twin sharing basis, They are cozy, comfortable but not luxurious.
4) What gear and clothing are essential for trekking in Nepal?
A good pair of waterproof hiking boots, layered clothing, a warm jacket, rain shell jacket, gloves, trekking poles, and a comfortable backpack. We provide a full packing list after booking. Just keep in mind that you need to be warm but not overload your backpack, so we will provide you with a detailed list of the essentials.
5) Are permits required for each trek? Do you organize them?
Yes. Each region requires specific permits (TIMS, ACAP, MCAP, etc.) and Climb On Adventures handles all of them for you, they are included in the price of the adventure so you don't have to worry about it.
6) What’s the best season to trek in Nepal?
The best seasons are October–December and March–May, when weather and visibility are ideal. Our treks are customized to your preferable dates during these months.
7) Is it possible to do these treks solo or only in groups?
Absolutely, both options are possible. If you’re traveling solo, you can join one of our existing groups, and we’ll happily let you know which departures already have confirmed participants. Just send us a message and we’ll share the available dates and group sizes.
ROPING ADVENTURES
(Climbing, Canyoning, Caving)
1) Do I need climbing experience to join?
No previous climbing experience is needed for most of our programs. In fact, many of our courses are designed specifically for beginners who want to step into the vertical world in a safe, guided, and super fun way.
For our longer or more technical programs (what we classify as intermediate), we do recommend having a little bit of previous experience. But even then, all our programs are fully customizable. If you’re unsure about which level fits you, just reach out, we’re always happy to guide you and help you choose the perfect adventure for your skill level.
2) What technical skills will I learn in the training programs?
Each program covers different skills depending on its focus, but generally you can expect to learn a mix of: knots, belaying, rappelling, anchor building, lead climbing, multi-pitch systems, and basic rescue techniques.
If you explore the detailed itinerary of each adventure on our website, you’ll see exactly what topics are covered day by day. And if you want a deeper breakdown, just send us a DM, an email, or book a quick call—we’re more than happy to share the complete technical syllabus for any of our programs.
3) What gear is included, and what do I need to bring?
All technical gear is provided (harness, helmet, rope, devices, slings, etc.). You only bring comfortable clothing, personal climbing shoes are highly recommended, and personal items.
4) How safe are activities like abseiling or caving?
Your safety is our top priority. Our instructors are certified, equipment meets international standards, and routes are chosen based on weather and conditions.
These sports are incredibly safe when practiced correctly, and that's why our programs focus precisely on teaching you the proper use of equipment, the correct techniques, and how to move confidently on vertical terrain.
5) Are there weight/height limits for climbing or rappelling?
There are no strict weight or height limits for our rope-based adventures, as long as your harness and personal gear fit correctly. Modern climbing and canyoning ropes are incredibly strong, they’re designed to hold the weight of a car, so supporting a person is absolutely no problem. The most important thing is that the equipment is properly adjusted and handled, and that's exactly what we teach you from day one.
6) What’s the ratio of guides to participants?
We keep our groups intentionally small (up to 8 persons) to give everyone a personalized learning experience. Our usual ratio is one guide for every 3–4 participants, depending on the activity.
This allows your instructor to coach you at your own pace, whether you're picking things up fast or taking your time to feel comfortable. And because climbing is typically practiced in pairs, our low ratio keeps everything safe, supported, and super hands-on.
7) Do these programs prepare me for future independent climbing trips?
Absolutely! That’s one of our biggest goals. Our programs are designed to take you from “I’ve never touched a rope before” to “I actually understand how this works and I can do this safely.” We focus on the hard skills that matter most: proper gear handling, belaying, anchor systems, communication, risk management, and safe movement on real rock.
By the end, you won’t just feel more confident, you’ll feel capable. Many of our participants finish the course ready to climb outdoors with friends in a responsible, informed, and safety-first way. You’ll leave with knowledge that multiplies your freedom in the sport and opens the door to the next level of your climbing journey.
8) What if I’m afraid of heights? Is it still possible to join?
Yes, and you’d be surprised how many people feel the same way. Our guides work gently, patiently, and always at your pace. There’s zero pressure to push beyond what feels right for you. Instead, we focus on building trust: trust in the gear, in the system, and in yourself.
Many participants tell us this experience becomes a turning point, not because the fear disappears, but because they learn to move with it, in a safe, supported, and empowering environment. If you're willing to try, we’ll be right there with you, turning every small step into a big win.
WATER ADVENTURES
(Kayaking, Rafting, Canyoning)
1) Do I need to know how to swim to participate?
Kayaking: Yes, basic swimming ability is required, since you will be learning skills such as wet exits, self-rescue, and paddle techniques in moving water.
Rafting & Canyoning: Swimming is not mandatory, but strongly recommended. You will be wearing a life jacket (PFD) at all times, and our guides are trained in swift-water rescue, but being comfortable in the water will make the experience more enjoyable.
2) What level of rapids will we encounter?
Our trips are designed for beginners and intermediate adventure seekers:
Trishuli River: typically Class I–III rapids, fun and splashy but suitable for beginners and families. During certain seasons (except monsoon), some rapids may feel slightly stronger, but we always choose sections adapted to the group’s level and safety.
3) Will I learn paddling techniques or just join as a participant?
Our water adventures are designed primarily for people who want to learn real skills, not just join a tour. While everyone is welcome, beginners, first-timers, or adventure seekers, the focus of our programs is to help you go home with new paddling techniques and practical knowledge you can use anywhere.
During the trip the idea is that you will learn different skills such as proper paddling posture and efficient strokes, how to read river features (current, eddies, lines), safety basics and self-rescue and other skills.
We still make room for participants who simply want to enjoy the experience, but the core of our programs is education, progression, and giving you hands-on skills
4) Is all the water safety equipment provided?
Yes, we provide all safety equipment and technical gear, including:
- Certified helmets
- High-floatation PFDs (life jackets)
- Throw bags, dry bags, and ropes
- Kayaks, paddles, canyoning harnesses, carabiners, etc.
You only need to bring comfortable clothes, water/river shoes, a towel, and personal items.
5) Are water sports safe during monsoon season?
No , we do not operate water adventures during monsoon season.
River levels rise significantly, currents become unpredictable, and canyoning terrain becomes unsafe. For this reason, we only operate in stable weather windows to ensure full safety.
6) What happens if the river conditions are unsafe?
Safety is our top priority. If river levels change or the weather becomes unsuitable, we will:
- Choose a safer section of the river,
- Modify the canyoning route, or
- Reschedule to the next safe day.
We do not run trips in marginal conditions. Our guides always make the final safety call.
7) What fitness level is required for kayaking/rafting?
A normal, healthy fitness level is enough. You do not need to be an athlete.
Kayaking: requires moderate upper-body movement and willingness to practice in the water.
Rafting: involves paddling as a team, but guides lead the effort.
Canyoning: includes hiking, sliding, scrambling, and short rope sections. If you can walk comfortably and enjoy the outdoors, you can join.
